Naomi Osaka has pulled out of the tournament.

Elina Svitolina is the first of the big seeds in action on day 3 of the French Open.

The Ukrainian fifth seed takes on home favourite Oceane Babel at 11 o clock Irish time in her first round match.

Following that, top seed Ashleigh Barty takes to the court.

The 2019 champion goes up against American Bernarda Pera.

Rafael Nadal will be the star attraction of the day at Roland Garros.

The 13-time champion gets the defence of his latest title under way later this afternoon against Australia's Alexei Popyrin.

Meanwhile world number 1 Novak Djokovic begins his campaign tonight, facing Tennys Sandgren of the USA.

Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova, Usain Bolt, Russell Wilson and Steph Curry are just some of the major sports stars to back Naomi Osaka, after she withdrew from the French Open last night.

Osaka withdrew on mental health grounds, having been involved in a standoff with tournament organisers over her failure to attend press conferences.

The 23 year old says she has been dealing with depression for the last three years.
