Speaking afterwards, McSharry admitted it wasn't the time she had hoped for but said she was delighted to come away with a medal, describing the closing stages of the race as a battle to hold on to third place.
Elsewhere, fellow Irish swimmer Ellie McCartney finished eighth in the final.
