Wales' hopes of making the knockout stages of the World Cup were left hanging by a thread following a 2-0 defeat to Iran.

They were reduced to ten men, following a red card for goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in the 86th minute.

Wales will now have to beat England in their final group game on Tuesday to reach the round of 16, something they have not achieved since 1984.

 

Later in the same group, England will look to maintain their impressive start when they take on the USA.

Gareth Southgate's side beat Iran 6-2 in their opening match earlier this week.

England defender Harry Maguire is poised to make his 50th international appearance.

Kick off is at 7pm.

GOLF

Leona Maguire has moved into a share of the the lead at the Open de Espana.

Tom McKibbin is best of the Irish on day two of the Joburg Open in South Africa.

John Murphy looks set to miss the cut.


RUGBY

Ulster host Zebre in the United Rugby Championship this evening.

Kick off at Kingspan Stadium in Belfast is at 7.35.

Jacob Stockdale will start for the hosts, while Iain Henderson is among the replacements.

Elsewhere, the DHL Stormers host the Scarlets from 5 O'clock.


GAELIC GAMES

Mayo manager Kevin McStay will have to plan without Oisin Mullin ahead of the new season.

The two-time Young Footballer of the Year has agreed to join AFL side Geelong Cats.

Mullin had been due to move down under last year, but opted to stay at home to play for his native county.
