Szymon Marciniak will fulfil his role as the referee for the Champions League final after the Pole apologised for participating in an event associated with an extreme-right movement, Europe's soccer governing body UEFA said.

UEFA were investigating his presence at an event organised in Katowice  on Monday, saying they "abhor the values that are promoted by the group", but kept him on as the referee after an apology and clarification from an anti-discrimination body.

Marciniak, 42, is one of Europe's top referees and also officiated the World Cup final in Qatar when Argentina beat France.

UEFA said they had consulted 'NEVERAGAIN', an NGO affiliated with the FARE network, which counters discrimination in European football.

"They requested that Marciniak remain in his role as the referee for the upcoming UEFA Champions League final, firmly asserting that removing him would undermine the promotion of anti-discrimination."

Sam Allardyce has left Leeds United by mutual consent after just four games in charge.

The 68 year old failed to keep the club in the Premier League after three years in the top flight.

In the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division tonight, leaders Derry City host Shelbourne,

Champions Shamrock Rovers will hope to end a run of two successive defeats when they play Dundalk in Tallaght Stadium,

Bohemians are home to Sligo Rovers

St Pat's are away to bottom club UCD and Drogheda host Cork City.

After round one of the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour in Ohio, Shane Lowry is 3 under par following a 69.

American Davis Riley leads on 5 under.

Seamus Power is 2 under; Rory McIlroy is level par after a triple bogey at the last hole.

Stephanie Meadow lies in a tie for third on 4 under par after round one of the Americas Open on the LPGA Tour in New Jersey.

Leona Maguire is 1 under.

The Aidan O'Brien trained 'Save The Last Dance' is favourite for the Oaks at Epsom, which goes to post at 4.30.

Aidan O'Brien, Jessica Harrington and John Murphy supply five of the 14 runners for tomorrow’s Epsom Derby.

O'Brien’s Auguste Rodin, Adelaide River and San Antonio, the Harrington-trained Sprewell and Murphy’s White Birch all rate as serious contenders for the race which has a 1.30pm start to avoid clashing with the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Racing today is at Tramore, from 5.20, and Down Royal, from 5.30.
