GOLF

Rory McIlroy is in second place with round two of the Open Championship underway at St Andrews.

McIlroy shot a 6 under par opening round of 66 to lie two shots behind the early leader - American Cameron Young.

McIlroy tees off just before 3pm.

Padraig Harrington is 3 under par, Shane Lowry and David Carey are even par, Seamus Power and Ronan Mullarney are 1 over and Darren Clarke is 7 over par.

Tiger Woods is 6 over and is set to miss the cut.

SOCCER

Sligo Rovers will face Motherwell in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round.

They beat Bala Town 4-3 on penalties at the Showgrounds last night after the match finished 2-2 on aggregate.

Derry City are out - beaten 4-0 over both legs by Riga.

 

In the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division tonight, St Patrick's Athletic host Dundalk, with Drogheda United at home to Bohemians.

 

France are into the quarter finals of the Women's European Championship following a 2-1 win over Belgium.

Northern Ireland face England at St Mary's tonight, with Norway taking on Austria.

CYCLING

The thirteenth stage of the Tour de France leaves the Alps behind today, and heads for Saint Etienne.

Jonas Vingegaard continues to wear the leader's yellow jersey, with a lead of 2 minutes and 22-seconds.

RACING

The July festival at Killarney comes to a close today, with a seven race card underway at 2.15pm.

There's also a seven-race programme at Kilbeggan this evening, with the first going to post at 5.30pm.
