Friday Morning Sports Update: 4 Games Down For Decision In Local GAA Championships This Evening.

GAELIC GAMES

Four games are down for decision across the Senior, Intermediate and Junior football championships this evening.

Moorefield play Carbury at 7.30pm in St Conleth’s Park, Allenwood play Ellistown at 8 in Hawkfield on Pitch 1.

On Pitch 2 at 7.30, Rheban face Cappagh and at 8 in Raheens it’s Kill vs Rathcoffey.

Last night, Athgarvan beat Kildangan 6-20 to 0-3 and Castlemitchell had a 2-14 to 3-9 win over Ardclough.

Derek Lyng is the new manager of the Kilkenny senior hurlers.

The former All Ireland winning midfielder has been handed a 3 year term to replace Brian Cody on Noreside.

Emeralds clubman Lyng won six All Ireland titles as a player and was a selector under Cody in the winning senior campaigns of 2014 and 2015.

He recently guided the black and amber Under 20's to the All Ireland title.

SOCCER

Shamrock Rovers are on the verge of a Europa League play off.

The Hoops beat Shkupi 3-1 in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie at Tallaght Stadium last night.

Gary O'Neill's stoppage time goal may prove crucial.

St Patrick's Athletic won 1-0 away to CSKA Sofia in the first leg of their Conference League tie in Bulgaria.
