Friday Morning Sports Update: St Pat's & Sligo Rovers Both Knocked Out Of Europe.

Davy Fitzgerald is appointed Waterford senior hurling manager.


St Patrick's Athletic are out of Europe.

They lost 2-nil on the night to C-S-K-A Sofia in their Conference League tie at Tallaght Stadium, going out 2-1 on aggregate.

Sligo were eliminated 5-2 over both legs by Viking of Norway.

On the domestic front, champions Shamrock Rovers go to Derry City in the League of Ireland Premier Division tonight.

Elsewhere, Bohemians host Dundalk,

It's Drogheda United versus Shelbourne,

And UCD take on Finn Harps.

All of the games kick off at 7.45.

In the First Division, Cork City take on Treaty United, it's Waterford versus Galway United, Wexford play Cobh Ramblers and Bray Wanderers meet Longford Town.

In the English Championship this evening, Watford play Burnley.


Davy Fitzgerald has returned for a second spell in charge of the Waterford senior hurlers.

He's been handed a two year deal, with the option of a third year.

Fitzgerald guided the Deise to the 2008 All Ireland final and the 2010 Munster title.

Meanwhile, Liam Kearns has been appointed the new boss of the Offaly senior footballers.


Irish amateur boxing CEO Fergal Carruth and chairman of the board Ciaran Kirwan both resigned from their positions last night.

It follows the rejection by club delegates of changes to corporate governance proposals at a recent EGM.


Shane Lowry heads the Irish challenge on 2 under par after round one of the FedEx St, Jude Invitational in Tennessee, six shots behind joint leaders JJ Spaun and Si Woo Kim.

Rory McIlroy is even par, with Seamus Power 1 over.

Leona Maguire is only one shot off the lead ahead of her second round at the LPGA Tour's World Invitational in Antrim.


There are 7 jumps races at Tramore, the first off at 4.50.

A seven race flat card at Cork begins at 5 o'clock.
