SOCCER

Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers both remain without a win in the league phase of the Conference League.

Rovers' poor form continued as they slumped to a 2-nil defeat at home to Celje of Slovenia, while Shels lost 1-nil to Shkendija in North Macedonia.

In Glasgow, Ireland defender Liam Scales scored as Celtic came back from a goal down to beat Sturm Graz 2-1 in the Europa League.

Nottingham Forest made a winning start to life under new manager Sean Dyche thanks to a 2-nil victory over Porto.

But Aston Villa fell to a 2-1 defeat to Go Ahead Eagles of the Netherlands.

The Republic of Ireland face Belgium in the first leg of their Women's Nations League play-off tonight.

The Girls in Green are aiming to return to the top tier, having been relegated last year.

Kick off at the Aviva Stadium is at 7pm.

CYCLING

Lara Gillespie produced an outstanding performance to win gold in the elimination race at the Track World Championships in Chile overnight.

Having won the European title earlier this year, Gillespie held off the challenge of Britain's Kate Archibald to take top honours.

GOLF

Seamus Power is one-under-par following an opening round of 70 at the Bank of Utah Championship.

The Waterford man is five shots adrift of a four-way tie for the lead, with Thorbjorn Olesen among those at the head of the field.

SNOOKER

There's another all-Irish clash at the Northern Ireland Open this evening.

Mark Allen - who beat Aaron Hill yesterday - faces Jordan Brown in the quarter-finals.

The first to five frames will progress to the last four.

RACING

There's racing at Sligo this afternoon from 2pm.

At Dundalk, an evening card begins at a quarter past five.
