Friday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on GAA, soccer, and golf.

GAA

Last night the Kildare Under 16's Girls Team beat Cork to progress to the final

The Full time score: Kildare: 2-14(20) Cork: 3-10(19)

Both Kildare’s goals, a penalty by Anna Dillon after 2 minutes, and from play 4 minutes into the 2nd half

Kildare will play Cavan in the final after they beat Galway 2-16 to 2-9.

SOCCER

There was plenty of drama in the World Cup last night.

Germany lost 2-1 against Ecuador - but both countries will still advance to the Round of 32

In Group F, The Netherlands, Japan, and Sweden are all through to the knockout stages

And despite already securing automatic qualification, it was a disappointing end to the Group Stages for the USA, as they lost 3-2 to Turkey

Ivory Coast will play in the knockout stages for the first time after a 2-nil win against Curacao secured them second spot.

Then in Group D Paraguay drew nil-all with Australia, which saw Australia progress and Paraguay hoping other results go their way to guarantee them qualification.

Overnight results in the World Cup mean that Scotland's knockout stage hopes hang in the balance

Due to their 3-nil defeat to Brazil on Wednesday, Scotland were relying on other results to go their way to ensure they finished as one of the 8 best third place teams.

Ecuador's 2-1 win over Germany last night means that if Senegal win tonight against Iraq, their World Cup campaign is officially over

It's a busy evening in the League of Ireland tonight.

Bohemians play St Patrick's Athletic at 8pm.

Shamrock Rovers welcome Galway United to Tallaght Stadium at 7.30pm.

Bottom side Waterford go to Dundalk, while Derry City play Drogheda United - both of those matches kick off at 7.45pm

GOLF

Shane Lowry is two-under-par heading into day two at golf's Travelers' Championship.

He tees off today at 5:30pm.

The KPMG Women's PGA Championship continues today at Hazeltine.

Kildare’s Lauren Walsh sits on over-par, Leona Maguire on three-over-par, and Stephanie Meadow ten-over.

Maguire begins day two at 1:55pm, Meadow at 2:17pm, and Walsh at 6:25pm.
