Olympics

Belfast boxer Aidan Walsh has secured Ireland's third medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

He'll bring home at least bronze after qualifying for the semi-finals of the welterweight division.

Walsh got a 4-1 split decision victory over Melvin Clair of Mauritius this morning - and he'll face Britain's Pat McCormack in Sunday's semi-finals.

Kellie Harrington is up and running with a win in the women's lightweight, getting a unanimous victory against Rebecca Nicoli of Italy.

The top seed advances to the quarter-finals and is one win away from a medal.

=

Waterford's Thomas Barr is through to the semi-finals of the 400-metres hurdles.

The 29-year-old, who was fourth in the event at the Rio Games, was second in his heat.

But three Irish athletes didn't get out of their heats in the 800-metres.

Nadia Power, Louise Shanahan and Siofra Cleirigh Buttner failed to advance to the semis.

Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Cillin Greene and Christopher O’Donnell go in the mixed 4-by-400 metres relay heats later.

=

Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy have boosted their medal chances in the men's golf.

They're tied for fourth place at seven-under-par after two rounds and are currently three shots off the lead.

McIlroy carded a five-under round of 66 with Lowry going around one better in 65.

=

The Irish women's hockey team face an uphill task to qualify for the quarter-finals.

They need a win against reigning Olympic champions Great Britain tomorrow in order to get out of Pool A.

Sean Dancer's team have suffered a 1-0 loss to India.

=

Annalise Murphy's chances of winning a medal in sailing's Laser Radial are over.

The 2016 silver medallist has finished in 40th place in her final race to end up in 18th place overall.

With three more races to come tomorrow, Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove are 14th overall in the 49er event.

Soccer

There's a top of the table clash in the Airtricity League Premier Division this evening.

Shamrock Rovers welcome Saint Pat's to Tallaght Stadium for a Dublin derby.

While Waterford make the trip to Drogheda.

Rugby

Lions captain Alun Wyn Jones thinks the speed of modern rugby is making the game more difficult to referee.

South Africa's Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, released an hour-long video complaining about the officiating in the opening Test against the Lions.

With the second Test taking place tomorrow, Jones doesn't think the comments will affect the game:

Racing

There's an eight race card at Galway this afternoon, with the first going to post at Ballybrit at 4pm.
