Kildare's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship campaign began with defeat to Galway last night.
The Tribesmen ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-21 to 17 points after a strong second-half display.
Playing with the wind before the break, Kildare stayed in contention and trailed by 2-8 to 12 points at half-time.
However, Galway found another level after the restart and outscored Brian Flanagan's side by 1-13 to five points in the second-half.
Kildare now have a three-week break before their next outing.
