It has released its report for the first half of the year.

Horse Racing Ireland says its latest report shows underlying growth in the industry despite the continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

HRI is headquartered on the Curragh.

Horses in training numbers are up 24% on the last comparable figure in 2019.

Ownership is also up by almost 24% and new owners registered showing a 31% increase on the 2019 figure.

The number of fixtures and races being run is "at an all-time high".

There has, however, been no public attendance at any race meetings in Ireland in the first half of 2021 and owners, limited to 200 per meeting, have only been able to return to the racetrack since June 7.

Outgoing CEO, Brian Kavanagh, joined Eoin Beatty and Clem Ryan on Friday's edition of Kildare Today.
