The team have now advanced their hopes of Olympic qualification.
Finn McGeever, Jack McMillan, Gerry Quinn and Jordan Sloan set a new Irish record of 7 minutes 12.73 seconds at the European Aquatics Championships.
That was good enough to make tonight's final in Budapest as the sixth fastest qualifier.
The time keeps them ranked 16th in the world but a faster time tonight would help maintain that position and possibly secure their passage to Tokyo.
That final starts at 6:52pm this evening but before that Mona McSharry goes in the final of the 100-metres breaststroke.
The Sligo swimmer returns to the pool at 5.25pm.
