Irish Olympian Ciarán Ó Lionáird Dies Aged 38

The Cork man took home bronze in the Men's 3000m at the 2013 European Indoors.

Irish Olympic runner Ciarán Ó Lionáird has passed away suddenly at the age of 38.

The Macroom native reached the final of the 1500 metres at the 2011 World Championships, and competed at the Olympics in London the following year.

He initially retired from the sport in 2016, and mounted an unsuccessful comeback bid ahead of the Tokyo Games in 2021.
