Galway ended the match 4-22 to 1-22 winners against Kildare.
Kildare delivered a hugely encouraging display before eventually losing to Galway in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship.
Brian Dowling's side were outstanding for much of the opening hour and held a 10-point lead at the start of the second half.
Galway eventually found their rhythm after the break, and aided by a strong wind, began to reel in the deficit to finish 4-22 to 1-22.
While the result was disappointing, Kildare can take enormous pride from a performance that shows their ability to compete with top teams.
