Kildare lost narrowly in a 2-21 to 0-23 win for Westmeath.
Kildare's Leinster Senior Football Championship run came to an end after a narrow 2-21 to 0-23 defeat to Westmeath in Tullamore.
Brian Flanagan's side battled throughout and kept themselves in contention with a steady flow of points, but Westmeath's second goal in extra-time proved decisive and turned the tides.
Kildare showed plenty of attacking quality, hitting 23 points over the course of the game.
While the result sees their Leinster campaign end, there were encouraging signs in the performance that they can carry into the next phase of their season.
