Kildare Under-16's Crowned Fr. Manning Cup Champions

Kildare's Under-16 footballers claimed the Fr. Manning Cup after holding off a spirited Galway fightback in Longford.

Kildare have won the Fr. Manning Cup for just the second time after edging Galway 3-16 to 4-11 in an entertaining Under-16 final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in Longford.

The Lilywhites built a commanding nine-point lead thanks to goals from Aidan Killian and Jack O'connell before Dean Hanniffy Murnaghan added a third after the break.

Galway mounted a strong comeback, but Kildare held their nerve in the closing stages to secure the title.

Alan Thompson was named player of the match after an influential display, while Peter Dunne and Cameron Cullen produced crucial late interventions to help see the game out.

There was further success for the county as another Kildare side defeated Wexford 1-14 to 1-7 to lift the O'Donovan Cup.
