Japan's Shiho Kuwaki captured her first major title after defeating Germany's Esther Henseleit in a play-off at the AIG Women's Open.

Japan's Shiho Kuwaki claimed her maiden major championship after defeating Germany's Esther Hanseleit in a play-off to win the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham.

The pair finished tied on five-under-par after 72 holes, with Henseleit birdieing the final hole to force extra time.

Kuwaki secured the title on the second play-off hole after Henseleit made a bogey.

American Yealimi Noh, who began the final round with the lead, finished third on four-under after late dropped shots cost her.

World number one Nelly Korda ended the tournament tied for fourth, while South Korea's Haeran Ryu finished tied for sixth after her bid for a third straight major title fell away on the closing holes.
