Kildare were held to a 2-10 to 1-13 draw away to Waterford, with a late goal from the hosts rescuing a point in Division 1.

LADIES FOOTBALL

In the Lidl National football League, Division 1: Kildare were away to Waterford on Saturday.

It finished in a draw: Waterford 2-10 Kildare 1-13

A last minute Waterford goal made it a draw and leave Kildare in relegation trouble

Kildare’s opening points were from Molly Aspell and Alannah Prizeman.

Kildare dominated the second-quarter with Mayah Doyle, Aoife Murnane and Aoife Rattigan (two points) all unanswered, followed by centre-forward Ciara Wheeler chipping the Waterford goalie for a great goal a minute from half time, to leave Kildare leading comfortably by 1-8 to 0-5.

On the resumption Aoife Rattigan had her fourth point, but Waterford came back into it with a goal, and while Kildare were still 4 points ahead with 9 minutes left, Waterford then reduced the margin to 2 points.

A point from Ciara Wheeler extended Kildare’s lead to 3 points, but then on the edge of full time, Áine O'Neill goaled to give Waterford the draw.

The point from this game could prove vital for Kildare, but they are in the relegation area now, ahead of a home game against Kerry next week.

Kildare: Scorers Aoife Murnane (0-1), Ciara Wheeler (1-2), Molly Aspell (0-2); Aoife Rattigan (0-6, 4f), Maya Doyle (0-1), Alannah Prizeman (0-1).
