Kildare go down but not without a fight
Division 1 Round 7 LGFA National League Result
Kildare 2 - 9 v Kerry 2 - 10
The closing of this year's Ladies Division 1 Football League saw Kildare take on Kerry in Hawkfield.
Kildare started the game with three unanswered points, only for the kingdom to find themselves leading 1-2 to Kildare's 0-3 at the fifteen-minute mark, courtesy of a Danielle O'Leary goal in the 11th minute.
The Kildare ladies did fight their way back into the lead by the time Paul McCaughey sounded his half-time whistle, a Ciara Wheeler point from play giving Kildare a 1-7 to 1-5 advantage at the midway stage, with a very impressive 1-5 coming from the boot of Aoife Rattigan.
The second half saw plenty of goalmouth action as an Alannah Prizeman strike rattled the net and gave Kildare a two-point lead with just fifteen minutes left to play.
Danielle O'Leary got her second goal of the afternoon to put Kerry back in front by a point.
A 55th-minute penalty from Kerry's Siofra O'Shea was saved to keep the sides just one point apart, an impressive stop from Rachel Fennin.
An exchange of white flags in the closing stages saw Kerry hold on to win by one point in the end, with the full-time score being Kildare 2 - 9 v Kerry 2 - 10.
The loss means Kildare are relegated to Division 2.
