Rory McIlroy carded six birdies in his final seven holes to reach 12-under-par.
Rory McIlroy has surged into a commanding position at The Masters, opening up a six-short lead at the halfway stage following a stunning second round at Augusta National Golf Club.
The defending Champion produced a sensational back nine, carding six birdies in his final seven holes to reach 12-under-par, the largest 36-hole lead in the tournament's history. A brilliant chip-in on the 17th was the highlight of a run that firmly established him as the man to beat heading into the weekend.
There is strong Irish interest behind him, with Shane Lowry tied for fourth after a composed round of 69 leaves him at five-under-par, still within touching distance.
However, it's disappointment for Tom McKibbin, who misses the cut after finishing at seven-over following a second-round 76.
McIlroy now heads into the weekend in pole position as he looks to defend his title in dominant fashion.
