Kildare jockey Ronan Whelan enjoyed the biggest victory of his career in the Epsom Derby.
Monasterevin native Ronan Whelan claimed a career-defining victory at Epsom on Saturday as he guided Christmas Day to success in the prestigious Derby.
The Kildare jockey partnered the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt to victory, helping secure O'Brien's 12th Derby triumph and the 50th British Classic win of his remarkable career.
Whelan, who recently joined O'Brien's Ballydoyle operation, described the achievement as a dream come true after landing one of racing's most coveted prizes.
