Four county hurling and football teams were in championship action over the weekend.

Pride of place goes to the women footballers who are the Lidl Division 3 League champions and are promoted to Division 2

Yesterday in Parnell Park, they beat Clare after extra time by 2-11 to 2-10; the Kildare goals from a Nessa Dooley penalty on 10 minutes and team captain Grace Clifford on 44 minutes.

But, it was three points in extra time by player of the match Róisín Byrne, along with heroic efforts by all, that clinched the title.

At half time, Kildare led by 1-2 to 0-3.

Kildare led all the way until four minutes from time, when Clare equalised 1-10 to 2-7 to send the game to extra time.

At half time in extra time:  Clare 2-10 Kildare 2-8

Two Roisín Byrne points levelled the match with 6 minutes remaining.

Two minutes later, Player of the Match Byrne put Kildare into the lead with a huge pointed free 2-11 to 2-10.

Despite Kildare finishing with 13 after two more yellow cards, they held on to win by a single point  and are Division 3 champions and promoted to Division 2 next season.
