Spurs Out of Europa Conference League; Busy January for Kildare GAA

 

UEFA has ruled that Spurs must forfeit their final Europa Conference League match against Rennes.

The game was postponed earlier this month after an outbreak of Covid-19 in the Tottenham squad.

This means Spurs finish third in their Group and cannot qualify for the next stage.

There’s speculation that the games scheduled between December 28th to 30th, could be postponed so that teams can avoid playing three times between St Stephen's Day and January 3rd.

The United Rugby Championship fixtures involving Irish and South African teams in early January have been postponed.

They'll now take place at the end of February and March.

Daniel Wiffen is through to the 1500 metres freestyle final at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Ellen Walshe also broke the Irish record to advance to the 100 metres butterfly semi-finals later today.

Mona McSharry goes in the 100 metres breaststroke final at 3.45pm.

Leopardstown organisers say that everyone who currently has a ticket for the Christmas festival will be able to attend.

However, no further tickets will go on sale for the four day meeting, which begins on St Stephen's Day.

Early January is going to be busy for Kildare and Naas footballers and hurlers

Kildare footballers begin their O’Byrne Cup at home to Westmeath on Saturday the 8th.

Naas footballers play Kilmacud on Sunday the 9th

Naas hurlers play Wexford’s Oylgate in the Intermediate final on Saturday the 15th

The same day, Kilcullen play Clonbullogue in the Junior final

And, the County’s hurlers begin their Keogh Cup the following day, Sunday the 16th.

 

A reminder that this evening’s Kildare Scoreboard, at 6.30 will feature manager and player interviews from Saturday’s Naas, Kilcock and Kilcullen Leinster semi finals.
