Yesterday, Kildare women’s footballers lost to Longford in the first round of the Intermediate Football Championship.

The game in St. Conleth’s Park, finished 3-9 to 1-9.

Two Irish boxers bid for gold medals at the Men's European Boxing Championships in Armenia today.

Dylan Eagleson meets French fighter Bilal Bennama in the bantamweight final.

Middleweight Gabriel Dossen goes up against England's Lewis Richardson in their final bout.

Both men are into the ring after 3pm Irish time.

SOCCER

Nottingham Forest are heading back to the Premier League after 23 years away following their 1-0 win over Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final.

They were bottom of the table when Steve Cooper took over and ended the season in fourth.

But an own goal from Levi Colwill at Wembley helped send Forest back to the top tier.

TENNIS

Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic will come face to face in the quarter finals of the French Open.

13-time winner Nadal booked his place in the next round with a win in five sets over Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Djokovic had an easier route to the last eight with a straight sets victory over Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.

On the court today, Stefanos Tsitsipas will be looking to reach the quarter finals when he takes on Denmark's Holger Rune.

Later, world number two Daniil Medvedev goes up against Marin Cilic of Croatia.

In the women's draw, top seed Iga Swiatek battles Zheng Qinwen of China in the fourth round.

GOLF

In-form Scottie Scheffler was denied another PGA Tour title last night.

The Masters champion suffered a play-off defeat to Sam Burns at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas.

Both players finished nine-under-par - with Burns making birdie at the first play-off hole to take victory.

FORMULA ONE

Red Bull's Max Verstappen has extended his advantage at the top of the F1 drivers' championship to nine points after a third place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The standings leader crossed the line behind Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and race winner Sergio Perez.

A lengthy delay to the start because of rain and a red flag for barrier repairs meant the event was shortened due to time restrictions.
