SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland are into the World Cup playoffs next March after yesterday's dramatic win over Hungary to their group stage.

Troy Parrott's' hatrick meant Ireland finish second in group F and are now two games away from next year's World Cup in North America.

Ireland have a two game playoff series in March; they'll know their opponents next Thursday.

 

GAA

Three Leinster football quarter final wins on Saturday for Athy, Sallins and Grange

In the Leinster Senior football semi final: Athy 1-16, Summerhill (Meath) 0-9 

Athy will play Portarlington in the semi final on Saturday week Nov 29th in Cedral St. Conleth's Park

Portarlington beat Louth's Naomh Máirtín by 14 points to 1-7.

The other semi final will be Ballyboden St. Endas away to Tullamore.

Dublin's Ballyboden St Endas booked their spot after beating Castletown of Wexford by 2-16 to 13 points.

Tullamore beat The Downs by 3-13 to 4-8.

The Leinster Intermediate football quarter final: Sallins  3-18 Kilbride (Meath)  0-6. 

Sallins have home venue for the semi final in a fortnight.

The Leinster Junior football quarter final: Grangenolvin 1-17 Cloughbawn (Wexford) 1-12. 

Grange will play European champions Barcelona in the semi final.

This morning's Kildare Today with Hannah Kelly will review the 3 matches, followed this evening from 6.25, Kildare Scoreboard will have manager and player interviews, along with the rest of the weekend Kildare Sport.

 

Attention turns to hurling next weekend.

Naas will be away in Wexford Park to St. Martin's in the Leinster senior semi final next Sunday at 1.30.

Clane will play Clonad of Laois in the Leinster Junior semi nfinal next Saturday at 1.30 in Cedral St. Conleth's Park.

Kfm will also have live coverage of both games.

 

RACING

Today's racing is in Navan; the card was deferred from Saturday after a course inspection.
