GAA

Sallins and Grangenolvin are Leinster club football champions.

In yesterday's AIB Leinster football Intermediate club final: Sallins 2-11 Tubberclair 2-4

Sallins led by 0-7 to 0-1 at half time

 

The AIB Leinster football Junior club final: Grangenolvin 1-12 Fighting Cocks, Carlow 1-8

Grangenolvin led by 1-9 to 0-1 at half time.

 

Kfm's coverage of both finals was in association with All Spares Kildare, Ballysax, The Curragh.

This morning's Kildare Today from 10. 40 will review yesterday's games.

Niall Kelly has retired from inter county football. 

As a 19-year-old, Niall made his Kildare Senior debut winning an O’Byrne Cup Final against Dublin

He made 101 appearances scoring 14 -138.

He won an Under 21 Leinster medal in 2013, Tailteann Cup this year & 3 Senior club medals with Athy in 2011, 2020, and this year. 

 

The All Ireland senior camogie final ended in a dramatic draw in Croke Park.

Cork's St. Finbarr's led by 6 points in the closing minutes, but Galway's Athenry had a goal, and a 4th minute added-time point, to send the final to a replay in January.

 

SOCCER

In the Premier League:

Manchester City have moved to within two points of the leaders Arsenal.

Erling Haaland with two and Phil Foden scored in the 3-nil win at Crystal Palace.

Sunderland beat Newcastle 1-nil.

Nottingham Forest beat Spurs 3-nil.

Aston Villa came from behind twice to win 3-2 against West Ham. 

Brentford and Leeds drew 1 all.

Tonight Manchester United play Bournemouth from 8pm.

In Scotland, Celtic were beaten 3-1 by St. Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup Final.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Ireland won a silver medal in the men's team event at the European Cross Country Championships in Portugal yesterday.

It is the first time Ireland medaled at the championships in 25 years.

Ireland finished just behind Spain.

Jack O'Leary was a fifth individually.

Ireland came home with four medals overall, including gold for Nick Griggs in the Under-23 race.

The Irish Under 23 team also won gold .

Emma Hickey won bronze in the women's Under 20 race.

 

HOCKEY

In the Women's Hockey Pro-League, in Dublin, England reversed last week's result between the sides, beating Ireland 2-1

 

RUGBY

In the AIL rugby Division 1B on Saturday, Naas 24 UCC 34.  

Naas remain 8th in the table

In Division 2A: leaders M. U. Barnhall 15 Galway 8

 

BASKETBALL

In Women's Superleague Basketball on Saturday, Leixlip's FloMAX Liffey Celtics 82, Midlands Park Portlaoise Panthers 73.

Celtics are 8th in the table of 10 teams, but have won their last three games.
