GAA

It was defeat for Kildare Camogie in the Glen Dimplex Premier Junior Championship Semi Final, with Cavan winning 2-12 to 1-9.

Naas and Allenwood are Hanlon Concrete Senior Football League Division 1 and 2 champions.

In Saturday’s finals, Naas beat Moorefield by 24 points to 1-17, while in Division 2, Allenwood beat Leixlip by 1-24 to 4-9.

This morning’s Kildare Today show from 10.45am will review the games, as well as this evening’s Kildare Scoreboard from 6.25 which will feature interviews with Camogie manager Rob O’Neill, Naas manager Jimmy Higgins, Allenwood manager Mark Murnaghan and team captain Daragh Malone.

Limerick hurling manager John Kiely says their quality got them over the line, as they lifted a 13th All Ireland title last night.

Cathal O'Neill hit 1-4 as the Munster champions cruised to a 1-29 to 1-18 victory in yesterday's decider.

The win marked the Shannonsiders sixth All-Ireland title in nine years under Kiely, who has won all but one of the 20 finals contested during his tenure.

Dublin Ladies football manager Paul Casey admits "the better team won" as their hopes of retaining the Brendan Martin Cup were dashed last night.

Kerry defeated the title holders to book their place in this year's final, with the game finishing 2-17 to 1-9 at Semple Stadium.

Siofra O'Shea scored 1-8 to help set up a showdown with Galway.

SOCCER

Spain lifted their first World Cup trophy since 2010 last night.

They dethroned the 2022 winners Argentina, who were left with 10-men following a late red card for Enzo Fernandez.

It means Spain now hold both the World Cup and European Championship titles - a feat they last achieved with their EURO's success in 2012.

Meanwhile, Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has cast doubt over his future in charge of the South American nation.

He left his post match press conference in tears following last night's loss, as he failed to become just the second manager to win back-to-back World Cups.

Scaloni says he will likely depart upon the expiry of his contract this December.

GOLF

Rory McIlroy says he'd like to see Bryson DeChambeau at this year's Irish Open.

The Masters champion signed for a final round of 71 yesterday at the Open Championship, as he finished far off the pace.

McIlroy says he'll now take a short break - but admits he'd like to see the LIV golfer at Doonbeg this September, adding it would "be great for the tournament".

CYCLING

Tadej Pogacar goes into the 16th stage of the Tour de France as the heavy favourite, after his nearest challenger crashed out and was forced to withdraw.

The defending champion now holds a five minute lead at the top of the general classification, with Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard broke his collarbone.

Ireland's Ben Healy sits in 44th, and more than 20 minutes off the frontrunner.
