SOCCER

Manchester City are the new Premier League leaders heading into the first international break of the season.

Antoine Semenyo scored twice, as the hosts got the better of Sunderland in a 5-3 thriller at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.

Elsewhere, Manchester United needed a late equaliser to rescue a 1-all draw at Fulham.

Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league, with a 1-0 win for manager Andoni Iraola against his old side Bournemouth.

Leeds are also yet to taste defeat in the league this season, after a scoreless draw at Crystal Palace.

The Republic of Ireland squad will meet up today ahead of their opening four games in the Nations League.

There are concerns over the fitness of Jamie McGrath and Harvey Vale after both missed games at the weekend.

Ireland are away to Kos-ovo on Thursday night and then face Israel on Sunday.

GOLF

Rory McIlroy says his focus is now firmly on winning the Race to Dubai after narrowly missing out on victory at golf's BMW PGA Championship.

The world number two finished up on 15-under-par, two shots behind the winner JJ Spaun.

McIlroy says he "left some chances out there" but he's happy with how his game has progressed in recent weeks.

Shane Lowry shared 21st place at 11-under.
