GAA action in the county this weekend has been around hurling.

On Friday in the UPMC Junior Hurling Championship Semi-Final, Kilcock 1-30 Sarsfields 1-12.

Then on Saturday in the UPMC Junior Hurling Semi-Final, Cappagh 0-16 Wolfe Tones 3-21.

Then in the UPMC Senior Hurling Championship Group A, Coill Dubh 1-12 Maynooth 5-23 and Confey 0-15 Eire Og Corra Choill 0-17.

In Group B, Ardclough 2-17 Celbridge 1-22 and Clane 0-9 Naas 12-29.

Shane O'Donnell has brought the curtain down on his hurling career.

The 2024 hurler of the year has retired following his club Éire Og's 1-24 to 2-14 loss to Inagh-Kilnamona in the Clare semi-finals.

Republic of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson says the last few days have been the "toughest" of his career.

Ireland’s players wore black armbands during last night's 3-nil win against Israel, didn’t shake hands and bowed their heads during Israel’s national anthem.

There had been calls to boycott the game to protest the ongoing war in Gaza, and goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu opted out of the squad for the fixture.

The players voted by a 14-9 majority to proceed with the game after a series of meetings on Saturday.

While the FAI's President Paul Cooke has defended their handling of the situation, saying he feels they dealt with it "quite well".

He added the there was "unprecedented coverage" of protests from the media, which Cooke feels lacked balance.

Shelbourne captain Pearl Slattery says they produced their best performance of the season to win yesterday's FAI Cup final.

Maeve Wollmer, Halle Harcourt and Alex Kavanagh were on target as Sean Russell's team stunned League champions Athlone Town 3-1 at Tallaght Stadium.



Rugby

Beibhinn Parsons says it was "really special" to become Ireland's record try scorer in her home county of Galway.

The Connacht winger went over for her 23rd and 24th international tries to help Ireland beat Japan 31-24 in the rugby's WXV Global Series yesterday.

It was a bounce-back win for Scott Bemand's side after their opening weekend loss to the USA.
