Leona Maguire won her singles match as Europe retained the Solheim Cup in dramatic fashion yesterday.

It finished 14-all with the United States in Spain, with home favourite Carlota Ciganda earning the all-important point for Europe.

Maguire beat Rose Zhang four-and-three to win her third point of the week.


SNOOKER

Mark Allen is hoping to go one better in the British Open this year as the tournament gets underway this afternoon.

The Northern Irishman was beaten in last year's final by Ryan Day.

Allen gets this year's campaign underway against Anthony McGill in the first qualifying round at 3pm.

Dublin resident Shaun Murphy kicks off his tournament when he takes on Rebecca Kenna at 8pm.
