The Kildare Ladies senior footballers beat Wexford 5-8 to 3-7 in their Leinster Intermediate championship opener in Hawkfield yesterday.

Nessa Dooley scored three goals

Clare O’Sullivan was Player of the Match.

The minor girls begin their Leinster campaign away to Meath today at 2pm in Páirc Tailteann, Navan


SOCCER

There are 5 games down for decision in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division today.

Shelbourne play Bohemians at 3pm.

UCD and St Patrick's Athletic at 5pm.

Finn Harps play host to Sligo Rovers ag 6; then at 7, it's defending champions Shamrock Rovers vs Dundalk.

GOLF

A double bogey on 14 proved costly as Shane Lowry finished in a tie for third at the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour.

The Offaly man finished with a 69 on 12 under par, 1 shot off joint leaders Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Speith.

Speith eventually took the win on the first playoff hole.

Graeme McDowell's final round 68 helped him finish on 8 under par in a tie for 21st.

HORSE RACING

Its Irish Grand National Day at Fairyhouse.

Franco De Port heads the weights for the 150th running of the Irish Grand National.

The Thyestes runner-up will be one of two runners for champion trainer Willie Mullins with Paul Townend partnering the ante-post favourite Gaillard Du Mesnil.
