GAA

The Kildare Club Football Championships continues today, following the games across the county last night.

Last night in the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championships, Sarsfield 1-18 Caragh 2-7 in Group B.

There were two games in the National Electrical Wholesalers Intermediate Championship, Leixlip 2-17 Straffan 14 points, and Suncroft 16 points Confey 1-11.

Today, attention turns back to the Senior Championship.

In Group D Clogherinkoe play Moorefield at Manguard Park from 3 o’clock, while Eadestown play Naas at St Conleth’s Park from half-three.

Later on, Carbury play Maynooth in Group B at St Conleth’s Park from 5.15pm.

There are also two games in the National Electrical Wholesalers Intermediate Championship Group B at 6pm, Kilcullen play Round Towers and Monasterevan play St Laurence’s.

And four games take place in the Tom Cross Junior Football Championship, with Ballykelly playing Castlemitchell and Cappagh playing Kildangan at 3 o’clock, before Rathcoffey play St Kevin’s and Rheban play Robertstown at half-four.

Soccer

In the FAI National League, a historic moment for local Kildare soccer, as Newbridge Town play their first home-game in the National League at Station Road against Villa FC at 3pm.

In the Premier League, Liverpool picked up their first win of the Premier League season yesterday, with a 2-nil victory away to Ipswich Town.

It’s a busy day of games today, beginning at half-twelve as Newcastle United play Bournemouth.

Fives games then kick-off at 3, Brentford play Sunderland, Brighton play Leeds, Fulham play Crystal Palace, Manchester City play Coventry City, while Nottingham Forest play Spurs.

The late game sees Hull City play Aston Villa at half-five.

Golf

In golf, The 51st Walker Cup is underway at Lahinch in County Clare, with Great Britain and Ireland looking to end the United States’ run of four consecutive victories in the competition.

The opening foursomes got underway at half-eight this morning, with Ireland’s Stuart Grehan and Niall Shiels Donegan both involved.

Strong winds are providing an added challenge on the Clare links.

The foursomes session is due to conclude around 1 o’clock, before this afternoon’s singles get underway from 2.

 

Boxing

In boxing, A sell-out crowd of 80-thousand people are set to attend Katie Taylor’s retirement fight at Croke Park tonight.

Taylor can retire as unified world super-lightweight champion should she overcome the unbeaten French fighter Flora Pili.

Paddy Donovan, Emmet Brennan and Taylor's cousin Molly McCann are among the boxers to feature on the undercard.

 

Racing

And racing today is in Navan from 1.30.
