It’s a busy weekend in the Kildare club football championships, with a full programme of games today.

In the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship last night, Johnstownbridge beat Allenwood by 2-15 to 11 points, while Celbridge were 1-15 to 17-point winners over Clane.

There were also three Osprey Hotel and Spa Reserve Championship semi-finals.

In the Reserve 2A Championship, Raheens 4-15 Maynooth 1-7, while in the Reserve 2B, Kilcock 17 points Sarsfields 3-3, and Naas had a 2-17 to 3-point win over Eadestown.

Attention turns back to the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Championship this afternoon.

In Group B at 3 o’clock, Maynooth play Sarsfields at Cedral St Conleth’s Park, while Caragh play Carbury at Manguard Park.

Then at quarter-to-five in Group D, Eadestown play Moorefield at St Conleth’s, with Clogherinkoe against Naas at Manguard Park.

There are also National Electrical Wholesalers Intermediate Championship quarter-finals at 5, with Ellistown playing Kilcullen and Nurney playing Straffan, before Cappagh and Rathcoffey play in the Tom Cross Junior Championship quarter-final at half-six.

Soccer

In the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, Athlone Town can take another step towards retaining their title this afternoon if they win against DLR Waves at 3pm.

Galway United need a win at home to Bohemians to keep alive their title chances, while second-place Shelbourne play Shamrock Rovers this evening at 7.35pm.

Then in the SSE Airtricity League, Saint Pat's will look to move back to the top this evening.

On a dramatic night in the title race, Shamrock Rovers twice came from behind to win 3-2 against Waterford to return to the summit last night.

Pat's can leapfrog the defending champions back to the top with a win at Sligo Rovers from 7.45pm.

Bohemians kept their title hopes alive by registering a 2-1 victory against Drogheda United.

Derry City were 1-nil winners at home to Galway United, and Shelbourne beat Dundalk 3-2.

In the Premier League, Keith Andrew’s Brentford made a statement last night with a 3-nil win over Chelsea.

There are five games today, starting at half-twelve as Tottenham play Aston Villa.

At 3 o’clock, Brighton play Arsenal, Everton play Ipswich, and Newcastle are home to Hull City.

Then at half-five, winless and pointless Coventry City play Nottingham Forest.

Golf

In golf, Rory McIlroy says he's determined to seize the "opportunity to try to claw back some ground" in the Race To Dubai this weekend.

Current leader Patrick Reed was forced to withdraw from the BMW PGA Championship due to injury during his second round yesterday.

McIlroy comes into today's third round four shots off the top at eight-under-par.

The Irish Open champion will tee off later from four-under, and America's Ryan Gerard is the man to catch on 12-under-par.

Racing

And racing today is in Kilkenny and Navan from 1pm.
