Soccer

In the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division last night, there were two games.

Leaders Shamrock Rovers were held to a scoreless draw away to Drogheda United.

Despite dropping points, Stephen Bradley’s side remain eight clear at the top of the table.

Elsewhere, Dundalk and Sligo Rovers ended in a one-all draw.

Daryl Horgan gave the home side the lead early in the second-half before Sligo hit back to earn a point.

Dundalk stay fourth, while Sligo remain bottom of the table.

Three quarter-finals take place today in the Women’s FAI Cup.

At three o’clock Bohemians are home to Shelbourne.

Then at half-past three, Shamrock Rovers are away to Athlone Town.

Before Galway United play Sligo Rovers at five o’clock.

And FIFA has abandoned controversial plans to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.

The proposal faced strong opposition from football’s major confederations, including UEFA, which warned it could boycott future competitions if the plans went ahead.

The governing body has now dropped the proposal following widespread criticism.

UEFA vice-president Laura McAllister says the idea wasn't viable in the first place;

Golf

In golf, Leona Maguire’s challenge at the AIG Women’s Open is over after narrowly missing the cut.

The Cavan native carded a second-round 74 to finish five-over-par, one shot outside the cut line.

There was also disappointment for Lauren Walsh and Anna Foster, who both failed to qualify for the weekend.

At the top of the leaderboard, South Korea's Ryu Hae-ran leads on seven-under-par, one stroke clear heading into the third round.

Pádraig Harrington is in contention at the Portugal Invitational after an opening six-under-par 66.

The Dubliner sits tied for third, just two shots off the lead, after carding seven birdies in an impressive first round.

Boxing

Pierce O'Leary defends his IBO World Super Lightweight Title this evening.

The Irish boxer faces Mark Chamberlain at the 3 Arena.

Steve Collins has credited O'Leary for taking on a difficult opponent in his first defence of the title.

Racing

And racing today is in Galway after two o’clock.
