Straffan take on Barrowhouse in Leinster Junior Football Championship

Kildare champions Straffan take on Barrowhouse of Laois in the Leinster Junior football championship this afternoon.

Throw in in Crettyard is at 1.30.

The Republic of Ireland will take on co-hosts Australia on the opening day of the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

The draw, which took place in Auckland this morning, placed Vera Pauw's side in Group B.

They will also play Olympic champions Canada and Nigeria.

The match against Australia will be in Sydney on Thursday July 20th.

Shamrock Rovers could be crowned SSE Airtricity Premier Division champions on Monday night without kicking a ball.

The Hoops are eight points clear at the top of the table having come from behind to win 4-1 at home to St. Pat’s last night.

Second placed Derry City could only muster a 1-1 draw with Shelbourne.

It now means if Derry fail to win away to Sligo on Monday night, Rovers will clinch the title.

Even if the Candystripes collect all three points at the Showgrounds, the Hoops will seal the title with just a point against Derry on Sunday-week.


Third placed Dundalk played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Sligo last night.

UCD moved off the foot of the table with a 2-1 win over Drogheda.

And Finn Harps once again prop up the table, conceding late in a 2-2 draw at Bohemians.

 

Three Kildare teams were in Leinster Senior League action last night.

Newbridge Town had a 2-2 draw at home to Arklow; their goals after 11 minutes from Josh Derham and their equaliser in the 90th minute from Cian Costigan

 

Maynooth University Town lost 4 nil at home to Ballymun Utd

Jonathan Sexton returns at out-half for Leinster this evening in their URC inter-provincial against Munster at the Aviva Stadium at 5.15

Eadestown’s Jimmy O'Brien and Naas’Jamie Osborne will start on the wings.

Athy's Joey Carbery and Jeremy Loughman will line out for Munster, but Taige Beirne misses the game due to injury.

Suncroft's Cian Predergast helped Connacht beat Llanelli Scarlets 36- 14 in Galway last night.

Five Irish boxers are chasing gold medals today at the European Elite Women’s Championships.

Kellie Harrington, Aoife O’Rourke, Amy Broadhurst, Caitlin Fryers and Tina Desmond are all in final action in Montenegro.
