The former Burnley and Everton boss has signed a deal until 2027, becoming Forest’s third manager of the season.
Dyche replaces Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked after just 39 days in charge following a poor run of results.
Forest sit 18th in the Premier League with one win from eight games.
Dyche’s first match will be Thursday’s Europa League clash with Porto, before a league trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
