GAA

Defeat for Kildare hurlers vs Kilkenny in the Leinster Championship yesterday.

Having played against the wind in the first half, Kildare only trailed by one point: 11 points to 10 at half time.

However, Kilkenny totally dominated the 2nd half, scoring 4 goals and 14 points to Kildare’s 4 points.

Final score: Kilkenny 4-25 Kildare 14 points

Kildare manager Brian Dowling had this to say; play clip

The result means that Kildare are relegated from the Leinster championship for next year, with one game to go against Offaly next Saturday.

On the plus side, Kildare retained their Division One B Allianz league status for next season

Also yesterday:

Offaly beat Wexford by 2-21 to 2-15 and retain their Leinster Championship spot for next year

A last gasp goal from Brian Hayes was enough for Dublin to beat Galway by 3-16 to 21 points

And in Munster,  Clare beat Tipperary by 1-15 to 17 points

Today, Limerick lost 21 points to 1-2o to Waterford at 3 o'clock.

 

The Kildare Ladies team lost 2-12 to 2-6 against Dublin today in the Leinster senior football final in Croke Park.

 

Also in Croke Park today, Dublin lost to Westmeath in the Leinster football by 2-28 to 26 points.

The Ulster final between Armagh and Monaghan begins at 4.15.

 

Soccer

In the Premier League today;

Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford.

4 games at 3pm.

Brentford trail 2-1 to Crystal Palace.

Sunderland trail Everton 1-nil.

Leeds United and Brighton are scoreless, and Wolves are drawing nil-all to Fulham.

West Ham are away to Newcastle at 5:30pm.

 

Rugby

It's Super Sunday in the Women's Six Nations.

England and France kick off at 4:45pm for the title.

Ireland currently lead Scotland 54-0 at the Aviva Stadium.

Wales lost 43-24 to Italy.

 

Golf

At the US PGA Championship Rory McIlroy carded six birdies in a four-under-par 66, 3 under par overall, and 3 strokes behind the leader Alex Smalley.

Pádraigh Harrington had a 67, he’s level par, while Shane Lowry is 4 over after his round of 70.

 

Racing

Finally, Racing today is in Naas.
