GAA

Moorefield got their first win in the UPMC Intermediate Hurling Championship after beating St Laurence’s 3-19 to 1-12 at Manguard Park yesterday.

In the day’s other game, Maynooth 2-12 Broadford 1-12.

Attention now turns to today’s action, with Leixlip playing Naas in Round 2 of the UPMC Intermediate Hurling Championship at 5 o’clock in Manguard Park.

Earlier, in the UPMC Junior Championship Group A, Cappagh play Kilcock at 2pm, while Athy play Round Towers at 3.30 and Wolfe Tones play Sarsfield in Group B at the same time.

Athletics

Kate O'Connor is celebrating this morning after she claimed a gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

The 25-year-old cemented her place at the top of the leaderboard with a third place finish in the 800 metres last night.

Swimming

Ellen Walshe also took home a gold medal at the European Aquatics Championships yesterday.

The Dubliner - who won a gold medal in the women's 400 metres individual medley during the week - claimed another gold in the 200 metres individual medley last night.

Soccer

In the FAI Cup, there are two more spots up for grabs in the quarter-finals today.

At 2 o'clock, St Pat's play Shamrock Rovers. Then Bohemians are home to Longford Town at 7pm.

Derry City, Waterford, Galway United, Drogheda United, Dundalk, and Sligo Rovers have all advanced in their third round ties.

The traditional curtain raiser to the English football season takes place this afternoon.

Arsenal play Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Kick off is at 3 o'clock at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

Golf

In golf, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will both be hoping to improve ahead of the final round at the St Jude Classic today.

McIlroy shot a two-over-par round of 72 yesterday, leaving him on six-over-par.

While Lowry also went around in two-over as he dropped to three-over for the tournament.

Kildare’s Lauren Walsh heads into the final round of the Portland Classic tied for 60th on three-under.

After an opening-round 66 put her among the leaders, Walsh has carded rounds of 73 and 74 and will be looking to finish strongly in today’s final round.

Racing

And racing today is in Curragh and Tramore from 1.35.
