GAA

GAA action in the county this weekend is around hurling.

Yesterday in the UPMC Junior Hurling Championship Semi-Final, Kilcock 1-30 Sarsfields 1-12.

Today in the UPMC Junior Hurling Semi-Final, Cappagh play Wolfe Tones at 12 o’clock.

Then in the UPMC Senior Hurling Championship Group A, Coill Dubh play Maynooth and Confey play Eire Og Corra Choill, both games throw-in at 2pm.

In Group B, Ardclough play Celbridge and Clane play Naas, both games throw-in at 3.45pm.

Soccer

In the Women’s FAI Cup, Athlone Town will look to complete a domestic double when they play Shelbourne in the final today.

They were confirmed as League of Ireland champions yesterday, becoming the first women’s side to win three successive titles.

Kick-off at Tallaght Stadium is at 3:30.

The Republic of Ireland’s controversial Nations League fixture against Israel is due to go ahead in Hungary later today.

The game has faced sustained calls to be cancelled from supporters’ groups, Irish sportspeople and opposition politicians.

Its staging was thrown into further doubt yesterday, before a majority of the Ireland squad voted to fulfil the fixture.

Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has withdrawn from the Israel games, having told the squad he did not want to take part.

Former international Glenn Whelan feels the FAI have let the players down.

Rugby

In rugby, it was a losing start to the new URC season for all four Irish provinces this weekend.

Munster’s defeat to Glasgow and Leinster’s one-point loss to the Lions followed opening defeats for Ulster and Connacht.

It’s the first time since 2009 that all four provinces have lost their opening fixtures.

Ireland's women's rugby team will look to bounce back from last weekend's defeat to the USA when they face Japan today.

They surrendered a 19-point lead before losing 40-36 in Tallaght.

They have a fully fit squad available for today's game at Dexcom Stadium in Galway at 12.45pm.

In the Leinster League yesterday, Leinster League - Division 1A: Athy 31 - 22 Seapoint. 

Seconds League - Division 1A: Athy 20 - 35 Seapoint, Seconds League - Division 2A: Clondalkin 50 - 19 North Kildare, Metro 4/5 Group B: Old Wesley 43 - 0 MU Barnhall, Metro League - Division 8: Wanderers 31 - 19 MU Barnhall, Metro League - Division 12: Clontarf 26 - 24 MU Barnhall.

The Energia All-Ireland League Men’s season returned.

In Division 1B, Naas opened with an impressive 32-12 victory over UCC at Forenaughts, running in six tries.

Blackrock College beat MU Barnhall 21-10.

Racing

And racing today is in the Curragh from 1.25.
