Sunday Sport Update; With Joe Mallon Motors, Sallins Road, Naas

It's another busy day of local sporting action

 

GAA

It’s another busy day on the local GAA championship scene, with a number of important games down for decision.

In the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship, Johnstownbridge play Moorefield and Ballyteague play Kilcock in Group D, with both those games throwing in at 3.30pm.

At 5, it’s all to play for in Group B, where Maynooth play Sarsfields and it’s Athy against Naas.

In the Auld Shebeen Athy Intermediate Football Championship Group D, Monasterevin play Suncroft and it’s a local derby between Kilcullen and Ballymore Eustace.

Throw in for those two matches is 1.30pm.

Kfm will have live coverage of all six games this afternoon in association with Pat Keogh Skoda Ballybrittas.

SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland know anything less than a win against the Netherlands today could spell the end of their Euro 2024 qualification hopes.

Stephen Kenny's side welcome the Dutch to Dublin with kick off at the Aviva Stadium at 7:45pm.

Elsewhere in Group B, Greece play Gibraltar at the same time.

GOLF

Rory McIlroy goes in the final group today as he looks to close a 2 stroke gap to the lead at the Irish Open in Straffan.

The 2016 winner lies on 11 under par after yesterday's round of 66 at the K Club.

German Hurly Long is the man to catch on 13 under par.

Shane Lowry is also hoping to make a move on the final day, he tees off from 8 under par at 11.20.

Mark Power goes from a shot further back and he tees off at 11.

RUGBY

The action continues at the Rugby World Cup today.

First up, Japan face Chile in Pool D with kick off at 12pm.

Later, Andy Farrell will be watching as Ireland's pool rivals South Africa and Scotland meet at 4:45pm.

The final game today will see Fiji take on Wales at 8pm Irish time.

TENNIS

Novak Djokovic is looking to win his 4th US Open title this evening.

The Serb takes on Daniil Medvedev in the final at Flushing Meadows at 9pm Irish time.

The Russian won his first major by beating Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final.

HORSE RACING

The Irish Champions Weekend continues this afternoon.

The action switches to the Curragh today with the first of the 8 race card going to post at 1.50pm.

Aidan O'Brien's Kyprios is the early favourite for the Irish St Leger which gets underway at 4.35pm.

Kfm will be broadcasting live from the Curragh throughout the day.
