Manchester United finished strongly, as Matteus Cunha came closest to stealing the win late on, but Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs was able to save the effort.
The point keeps United unbeaten in their last four games, while Sunderland pick up another useful result with two matches left in the season.
