GAELIC GAMES

Kildare native Davy Burke was last night confirmed as the new Roscommon senior football manager.

He’s been handed a three-year term to succeed Anthony Cunningham.

Burke will be assisted by Donegal All Ireland-winner Mark McHugh.

The Confey clubman had his playing career cut short by injury.

However, he sprung to prominence when he managed Kildare to victory in the 2018 All-Ireland U-20 football championship.

Burke managed Sarsfields to a county title in 2019.

He became the youngest senior intercounty manager when he was appointed Wicklow manager in September 2019, shortly before his 32nd birthday.

He had two seasons in charge of Wicklow, departing the role in August of 2021.

Following his stint with Wicklow, he returned to Sarsfields before departing earlier this year.
