The Last Word In Lonesome Is Me

Thursday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date GAA, soccer, and golf.

GAA

Kildare played Offaly yesterday in the Under 20’s Football Championship.

The full time score was Kildare 1-17, Offaly 1-12.

Elsewhere,  a late goal wasn't enough for Dublin as they lost 2-13 to 1-13 to Louth.

Meath eased past Laois with a 3-12 to 10 point win.

Westmeath beat Wexford 1-14 to 2-8, and Longford got past Carlow with a 2-20 to 1-13 win.

SOCCER

Arsenal continued the defence of their Women's Champions League title by knocking out London rivals Chelsea last night.

The holders lost the second leg of their quarter-final 1-nil at Stamford Bridge, but go through on a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

Manchester United were beaten 5-3 by Bayern Munich on aggregate.

GOLF

Tiger Woods won't captain the United States at next year's Ryder Cup - after turning down the role as he takes a break from golf.

The 50-year-old crashed his car last week and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence - but he says he's not guilty.

Woods has turned away from golf in order to concentrate on his health and the PGA of America says it respects his decision.

Seamus Power returns to action at the Texas Open this afternoon.

The Waterford native tees off at the Oaks Course shortly after 3pm.

It follow a frustrating outing at last week's Houston Open - with the 39-year-old failing to make the cut for the weekend.

Meanwhile, there's plenty of Irish interest at the Aramco Championship throughout the day.

Anna Foster is the first Irish golfer to tee off, she'll be out on the course at around 3:20pm.

Around 20 minutes later, Leona Maguire is also in action at Shadow Creek.

While in the evening, Kildare’s Lauren Walsh will get her opening round underway in Nevada shortly after 8pm Irish time.
