Thursday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on GAA, soccer, tennis and golf.

GAA

There is one game to be played tonight in the Hanlon Concrete Football League.

In Division 2, Ellistown play Caragh with throw-in at 8pm.

SOCCER

Scotland and South Korea are now among the teams waiting to learn their fate at this year's World Cup.

The pair are both hoping to be one of the tournament's best third placed teams, after losses last night.

Scotland were defeated 3-0 at the hands of Brazil, with Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior bagging two.

Korea suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to South Africa..

Morocco secured their passage with a 4-2 win over Haiti, Switzerland topped Group B, beating Canada 2-1.

Qatar are out after a 3-1 loss to Bosnia, while Czechia's tournament is over after they slumped to a 3-0 loss against co-hosts Mexico

TENNIS

Wimbledon organisers say they're "surprised and disappointed" over the latest tennis player protest.

A dispute over prize money means some players are expected to limit their media availability at the All England Club.

That's despite the prize pot being increased by 20% ahead of the competition.

There were previous protests at the French Open, with some pre-tournament media commitments no more than 15 minutes.

GOLF

Shane Lowry will be reunited with a former caddie for this year's Travelers' Championship, which gets underway this afternoon.

Dermot Byrne will be back on his bag this week, having last supported Lowry on the course in 2018 - in what's been described as a short-term arrangement.

The 2019 Open winner confirmed his split with caddie Darren Reynolds after last week's US Open - in which, Lowry failed to make the cut.

He tees off at TPC River Highlands shortly after 2pm this afternoon.

The KPMG Women's PGA Championship also gets underway this lunchtime, with Kildare's Lauren Walsh among the early starters.

She tees off at Hazeltine at 1pm Irish time, with Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow are among the evening starters.

American Nelly Korda is bidding to become only the third player in history to win the first three majors of the women's season.
