GAA

Last night in the Manguard Plus Minor Football Championship A it finished:

Clane 3-09, Kill 3-06.

Athy 3-16, St. Laurences 1-17.

and Raheens 0-23, Sarsfields 3-14.

The county senior, intermediate and junior football championships resume this weekend, with Round 2 of the Joe Mallon Motors, Naas senior championship and round 3 of the intermediate and Junior.

Tonight in the Tom Cross Junior Football Championship Ardclough play Kill and Athgarvan play Ballymore Eustace.

Both games throw in at 8 o’clock.

Games in the three championships are scheduled across the weekend. 

Kfm will preview them tomorrow morning on Kildare Today and from 6.25 tomorrow evening on the Weekend Sport Preview.

GOLF

Ireland’s oldest golf club, and Leinster Junior Cup champions, Royal Curragh is chasing All-Ireland success for the first time in its 174 years existence.

Beginning today, team captains Ian Clarke and Cormac Aspell lead their squad for the AIG Men’s Junior Cup Finals at Millicent Golf Club.

Millicent Golf club is hosting both the AIG Men’s and Women’s Junior Cup finals, with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals taking place today and tomorrow.

The Royal Curragh squad of Kevin Miller, Ozzie O’Toole, Shane Bracken, Michael Dixon, Rob Jacon, Kevin Donohoe and junior members Harry Tiernan and Daniel Campbell beat Carlow, Millicent, Kilkenny and Abbeyleix to secure the Leinster Central crown.

They play Connacht champions Athlone in their opening match from 12.30pm.

RUGBY

Ireland captain Caelan Doris is in a race to be fit for the Nations Championship tests this November.

The number-eight was forced off with a knee injury during their win over the Bulls in the URC final back in June.

He is expected to be out of action for Leinster at the start of the seasons, but could also miss tests against Argentina, Fiji and world champions South Africa.

SOCCER

Republic of Ireland international Andrew Omobamidele has joined Belgian side Anderlecht on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old defender joins from Strasbourg, having captained the French outfit in their league win over Lens on Saturday.

Charlton missed the chance to make it four wins out of four after a 1-all draw at West Brom in the Championship last night.

Nathan Jones's team are third in the early table.

QPR are second, behind Swansea, after winning 2-1 against Cardiff.

Wrexham, buoyed by deadline day signings, were three-nil winners at Millwall.

Burnley are still winless in their campaign, after a 1-all draw at home to Middlesbrough.

Celtic's strong start to their title defence continued with a 3-0 win over Aberdeen last night.

Camilo Duran, Benjamin Kygren and Yang Hyun Jun all found the back of the net as they made it four wins from four.

There were also debuts for new signing Shim Mheuka and Oliver Sorensen.

Katie McCabe and Kyra Carusa will both be playing European football this season.

McCabe's Chelsea advanced to the league phase of the Champions League with a 6-2 aggregate win over Spanish side Real Sociedad.

England international Keira Walsh with the only goal of the night - with McCabe an unused substitute.

While Carusa started for Koge, who drew 1-1 on the night to beat PSV 2-1 across both legs.

TENNIS

Carlos Alcaraz marched on to the third round at the US Open overnight.

The defending champion lost the opening set to Portugal's Jaime Faria, but made it through in four.

Aryna Sabalenka eased past Polina Iatcenko, losing just two games on her way to a straight-sets win.


RACING

There's an eight race card in Kilbeggan this afternoon.

The going is good to yielding with cloudy conditions forecast.
