Tuesday Morning: Naas & Maynooth To Meet In The Final Of The U23 A Whitewater Football Competition

Brazil are into the quarter finals of the World Cup after easing past South Korea by 4 goals to 1 in Qatar last night

Last night, in the Whitewater Shopping Centre U23 A Football Competition Semi Final.

Naas 4-11 v Clane 2-9.

Naas now play Maynooth in the final, to be played in St. Conleth’s Park next Saturday at 1.30.

 

SOCCER

Brazil are into the quarter finals of the World Cup after easing past South Korea by 4 goals to 1 in Qatar last night.

Brazil will now play Croatia on Friday afternoon.

The 2018 finalists defeated Japan on penalties.


The quarter final line up will be completed today.

Morocco and Spain go head to head at 3pm, with Portugal up against Switzerland at 7pm.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not a guaranteed starter for the Portuguese after manager Fernando Santos said he was unhappy with the player's reaction after Ronaldo was subbed in the game against South Korea.


RUGBY UNION

Eddie Jones is set to be sacked as England head coach today.

The Australian has been in charge for seven years and guided England to the last World Cup final, but he's to pay the price for a poor November, as England lost to Argentina and South Africa.

Steve Borthwick is being tipped to take charge.


OLYMPICS

Pat Hickey has stepped down from the International Olympic Committee on health grounds.

The 77 year old Dubliner was arrested in Rio six years ago as part of an investigation into the alleged illegal resale of Olympic tickets.

He denied all charges and has never faced trial.



HORSE RACING

Honeysuckle was crowned Horse of the Year at the Horse Racing Ireland awards in Dublin last night.

Among the other winners - leading owner JP McManus received the Contribution to the Industry award and recently retired flat jockey Kevin Manning took the Irish Racing Hero award.

The Flat achievement gong was presented to 19 year old champion apprentice Dylan Browne McMonagle, who hails from a county not normally associated with horse racing - Donegal.

There's a meeting at Tramore today from 12.45.
