SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland beat Gibraltar 4-nil in last night's Euro 2024 qualifier in Faro.

Evan Ferguson, Mikey Johnston, Matt Doherty and Callum Robinson netted the goals for the Boys in Green.

It's Ireland's second win of the campaign, with automatic qualification now beyond them.

Jamie McGrath says it was important to bounce back after the defeat to Greece last Friday.

Elsewhere in Group B, the Netherlands netted late on through a Virgil van Dijk penalty to beat Greece 1-nil.

Last night's Group F encounter between Belgium and Sweden was abandoned at half-time.

The teams reached the decision following consultation with Brussels police in the wake of a terrorist attack, in which two Swedish nationals were killed.

Their meeting with Northern Ireland kicks off at 7.45.

And England only need a point against Italy at Wembley to book their place at next summer's tournament.

Play is due to get underway in Almeria at a quarter-to-10 this morning.

They play the Netherlands from half nine this morning.

The former England boss has been linked with a return to Japan following a disappointing World Cup for the Wallabies.

But Jones insists he has no intention of leaving, telling reporters he has 'always been committed to Australian rugby'.

RACING

There's an all-flat card at Gowran Park this afternoon.

The first of seven races is off at five-to-2.
