Tuesday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on soccer and tennis.

SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland can secure a second-ever place at a major tournament this evening.

Carla Ward's side are just a point behind leaders France in their World Cup qualifying group - the two sides meet in a winner-takes-all clash in Grenoble tonight.

Denise O'Sullivan and Emily Murphy are back available, having missed Friday's 3-2 win over the Netherlands through suspension.

Kick-off in Grenoble is at 8pm - Irish Time.

The Men's Under-21s are also in friendly action later.

Fresh from a 2-all draw with their Croatian counterparts on Saturday, Jim Crawford's side take on the Qatar Under-23s in Zagreb.

That game is underway from 3.45pm.

A senior Somali referee has been barred from entering the US.

Omar Artan was due to officiate at the World Cup but was stopped on arrival in Miami over what officials describe as "vetting concerns".

Somalia is one of the countries on Donald Trump's travel ban list, which was announced last year as part of the government's crackdown on immigration.

The former co-chair of West Ham has been accused by multiple women of "serious historic allegations" of exploitative and predatory behaviour

A joint investigation by the BBC and the Times reveals accusations towards David Sullivan from seven women, who were at the time aged from their late teens to early 20s.

Sullivan left the club with immediate effect at the weekend in advance of the allegations being published, calling them "factually incorrect and entirely false."

He categorically denies all claims.

TENNIS

Serena Williams will make her tennis comeback later today at the Queen's Club Championship.

The 23-time grand slam singles champion will be playing doubles alongside Canada's Victoria Mboko - who is currently ranked 9th in the world

They face Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe.
