SOCCER

Shamrock Rovers return to European action this evening, having dropped down to the Europa League qualifiers.

Tonight, they play the home leg of their third qualifying round tie against FK Egnatia.

A win over the two legs will guarantee European league-phase football for the third season in a row.

Kick-off at Tallaght Stadium is at 8pm.

Galway United can leapfrog Athlone Town at the summit of the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division this evening.

They'll move to the top of the table with a win at second from bottom Bohemians.

It's a 7pm start to proceedings at Dalymount Park.

Brentford are reportedly close to signing defender Donal O'Connor from Cork City.

The 18-year-old reportedly underwent a medical at the Premier League club, and is set to join the likes of Nathan Collins and Caoimhin Kelleher at the club.

O'Connor had signed a contract extension with the First Division leaders back in June.

Reports that Gianni Infantino has reached out to the White House for support in keeping his job as FIFA president have been denied by a US government spokesman.

National associations - including England and Wales - are refusing to back Infantino after his failed private investment plan.

It's also been reported that an alliance is being formed to "paralyse FIFA" if Infantino refuses to resign.

Mauricio Pochettino has agreed a new four-year deal as head coach of the US men's team.

The former Spurs and Chelsea boss led the co-hosts to the last-16 of this summer's World Cup, where they lost to Belgium.

GOLF

Leona Maguire says she's excited to play at her fourth Solheim Cup in the Netherlands next month.

The Cavan golfer was one of four players to receive a wildcard pick from Team Europe captain Anna Nordqvist.

RACING

There's a mixed seven race card at Roscommon this evening, where the going is good to yielding.

The opening Maiden Hurdle goes to post at 5.25pm.
